AUDIVI

Accessibility of media for target groups with sensory impairments has been receiving increasing attention. One form of this accessibility is audio description (AD), which makes film and television accessible to blind and visually impaired individuals by verbally describing the visible information on the screen. Audivi aims to develop a technical proof of concept that generates automatic real-time audio description based on AI for visually impaired and blind individuals within video games.

AUtomatic AUdio Description In VIdeo games(AUDIVI) is a joint project between researchers at Howest and UAntwerpen to develop a technical proof of concept that generates automatic real-time audio description based on AI for visually impaired and blind individuals within video games.

This involves combining Howest’s expertise in AI within game engines with UAntwerpen‘s expertise in audio description in traditional media. The goal is to distribute a licensing model to (applied & serious) game developers so that every game and educational application created with game engines can utilize this for more inclusive use among diverse target groups.
